🌟 About DOT’S HOME

“How did your family arrive where they are today—and how much agency did they truly have along the way?”

DOT’S HOME is a powerful, player-driven narrative experience that follows a young Black woman returning to her grandmother’s home in Detroit—a sanctuary built on resilience, memory, and resistance. Using time travel as a narrative device, she steps into pivotal moments in her family’s history:

  • 1943: The Great Migration and the rise of Black homeownership in Detroit.
  • 1967: The aftermath of the 12th Street Uprisings and the beginning of urban disinvestment.
  • 1970s: The impact of redlining and predatory lending on Black families.
  • 2000s–Present: Gentrification, displacement, and the fight for housing justice.

Players don’t just witness history—they live it. Each decision—whether to fight for the house, leave for safety, or stay and rebuild—carries emotional weight and echoes through time.

🤝 About the Rise-Home Stories Project

DOT’S HOME is a creative partnership between:

  • Multimedia artists and writers
  • Housing justice advocates
  • Historians and community organizers

Over three years, the team collected oral histories, archival documents, and lived experiences from Detroit residents and other marginalized communities to authentically portray how systemic racism has shaped where we live—and who gets to call a place “home.”

The game is more than entertainment. It's a tool for reflection, healing, and advocacy, designed for classrooms, community centers, and public dialogues about housing, memory, and belonging.
