ScratchJr draws inspiration from the renowned Scratch programming language, which has empowered millions of young people around the globe. Specifically designed for younger children, ScratchJr's interface and programming language are tailored to match the cognitive, personal, social, and emotional development stages of its young users.

We believe that coding, much like writing, is a fundamental literacy skill. While coding was once considered challenging and exclusive, we advocate for it to be accessible to everyone, just as writing is. Through ScratchJr, children not only interact with technology but also use it as a tool for self-expression and creativity. ScratchJr is a collaborative effort between the Developmental Technologies group at Tufts University, the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab, and the Playful Invention Company. The Android version was implemented by Two Sigma, with graphics and illustrations brought to life by HvingtQuatre Company and Sarah Thomson.
