Rummy 500 (also known as Persian Rummy, Pinochle Rummy, 500 Rum, or 500 Rummy) is a beloved Rummy variant. While similar to standard Rummy, it stands out by allowing players to draw multiple cards from the discard pile, not just the top card.

Under the most common Rummy 500 rules, you earn points for cards you meld. Conversely, you lose points for any unmatched cards (deadwood) left in your hand when another player goes out.

Game Rules:

• Typically played by 2-4 players

• Uses a single deck including jokers

• Each player is dealt 7 cards

• The goal is to be the first player to reach 500 points

• Even if multiple players hit the target, only the highest scorer wins

• Form sets and sequences. A set is 3-4 cards of the same rank; a sequence is 3+ consecutive cards of the same suit. Your score comes from adding up the values of the cards in your valid sets and sequences.

• Each turn involves drawing a card at the start and discarding one at the end

• On your turn, you can also lay down a new meld or add cards to an existing one (a move called "building")

• Jokers are wild and can substitute for any card in a set or sequence

• You may pick up multiple cards from the discard pile, but must use the last one taken in a meld immediately

• If you take from the discard pile, you must use that card to form a meld right away

• Face cards are worth 10 points. An Ace can be worth 11 points in a meld, but carries a 15-point penalty if caught in your hand. A Joker takes the value of the card it replaces but also adds a 15-point penalty if held.

• The game consists of multiple rounds

• Your score accumulates round by round. The first player to reach or exceed 500 points wins

• The game ends when the target is met. A tie-breaker playoff determines the final winner.
