Nonograms, also known as Hanjie, Griddlers, Picross, Japanese Crosswords, Japanese Puzzles, Pic-a-Pix, "Paint by numbers," and other names, are captivating picture logic puzzles. In these puzzles, you color or leave blank cells in a grid based on numbers provided at the grid's edges, gradually revealing a hidden picture. These numbers serve as a form of discrete tomography, indicating the count of unbroken lines of filled squares in each row or column. For instance, a clue like "4 8 3" suggests sequences of four, eight, and three filled squares, with at least one blank cell separating each group.

To master these puzzles, you must accurately determine which cells to fill (known as boxes) and which to leave empty (known as spaces). Both types of cells are crucial; spaces, in particular, are essential for defining the spread of a clue later in the solving process. Solvers often use a dot or a cross to mark cells they are sure are spaces.

It's crucial to solve nonograms without guessing. Only cells that can be logically deduced should be filled. A single incorrect guess can lead to a cascade of errors, potentially ruining the entire solution.
