Spectre Skin Prices Plummet Post-Launch Controversy
Mountaintop Studios, the developers behind the newly released FPS title Spectre Divide, swiftly addressed player concerns regarding high in-game skin and bundle prices. Just hours after launch, the studio announced significant price reductions and refunds.
Price Cuts and Refunds
In response to widespread negative feedback, Spectre Divide implemented a 17-25% price reduction across weapons and outfits. Game director Lee Horn confirmed the adjustments, stating, "We've heard your feedback and we're making changes." Players who purchased items before the price drop will receive a 30% SP (in-game currency) refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP.
The announcement specifically mentioned that the Starter pack, Sponsors, and Endorsement upgrades will remain at their original prices. However, players who purchased the Founder's or Supporter packs and these additional items will receive the equivalent SP refund added to their accounts.
Mixed Reactions and Steam Reviews
Despite the price adjustments, player reactions remain divided. Steam reviews currently show a "Mixed" rating, with many negative reviews citing the initial high cost of in-game items. While some players appreciate the developer's responsiveness, others express concerns about the timing of the changes and suggest further improvements, such as the ability to purchase individual items from bundles. One player voiced concern about the game's long-term viability given the initial pricing controversy and the growing competition within the free-to-play market. The initial backlash included negative review bombing on Steam.
