Sony Unveils New PSN PC Policy, Gifts Revealed

Sony's PC gaming policy sparks controversy among gamers. The company's requirement for PSN tethering, even in single-player titles, and the service's regional limitations restrict access to new releases.

Sony recently announced policy adjustments. While PSN tethering for PC remains, certain relaxations are in effect. These games will not require mandatory PSN tethering:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  • God of War Ragnarök
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered

Players choosing to tether to PSN will receive these bonuses:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Early access to the "2099" suit line for Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
  • God of War Ragnarök: Access to the Black Bear armor set, the first "Lost Things" chest, and a resource pack.
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Bonus points for unlocking features.
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: The Nora Valiant costume.

In November, COO Hiroki Totoki acknowledged investor concerns regarding PSN connection requirements, emphasizing its role in maintaining security and order. While he referenced service-based games, the rationale for requiring PSN accounts in single-player experiences like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and God of War Ragnarök remains unclear.

Times have changed, and the debate continues.
