"Skull and Bones Adds Land Combat in Fall Update: Ubisoft Reveals Year 2 Plans"
Ubisoft is setting the sails high for Skull and Bones Year 2, aiming to make the pirate multiplayer game's second year the most ambitious yet with a slew of exciting content updates. These include new modes, ships, a legendary Kraken encounter, and the much-anticipated land combat feature, which fans have been clamoring for since the game's debut last February.
During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its treasure trove of plans for the upcoming year. The highlight of the presentation was Season 3: Guts and Glory, scheduled for this fall, which will finally introduce the long-awaited land combat. Players will be able to step off their ships and engage in swordfights and gun battles on land, adding a new dimension to the gameplay. This feature is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, where players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled Officers. A teaser video offered a glimpse of what to expect, though full details will be revealed closer to the season's launch.
While land combat is the star of the show, Ubisoft's roadmap for 2025 is packed with other thrilling updates. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, launching today, April 15, introduces a loot-enhancing item ascension feature, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, set to hit the seas in summer 2025, will bring Megaforts and the impressive Frigate large ships. Wrapping up the year, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, arriving this winter, will feature the fearsome Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.
For those eager to jump into the action, Ubisoft is offering a free weekend from April 17 to 21, giving players a chance to experience the pirate PvP firsthand. During this period, the game will also be available at a discounted price, though the exact reduction has yet to be announced.
Skull and Bones set sail on February 16, 2024, across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S platforms, earning a solid 7/10 in our review. Although Ubisoft has kept official sales figures under wraps, they did hint at achieving "record player engagement" soon after the game's launch. Interestingly, the release of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players returning to Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
