Onimusha: Way of the Sword New Trailer Shows Off New Gameplay, Protagonist
Capcom unveils new gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The trailer, showcased at the PlayStation State of Play event, reveals the game's protagonist: the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.
The trailer highlights the game's dynamic sword combat and impressive enemy designs. While still over two years away, the visuals are striking, promising a thrilling action experience.
Miyamoto Musashi's portrayal blends his renowned swordsmanship with a charismatic, even humorous, personality. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most iconic historical figures. His likeness is reportedly based on Toshiro Mifune, the celebrated Japanese actor known for his samurai roles.
The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, under siege by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To bridge the gap, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
