Oblivion Remake Coming Soon
Bethesda is reportedly preparing to announce a remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion in the coming weeks, with potential release following shortly after.
Industry insider NatetheHate, who previously revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement date, tweeted that the Oblivion remake announcement could happen this month or next. Video Games Chronicle has verified this information.
The actual release timeframe remains uncertain. While NatetheHate suggests a pre-June launch, VGC indicates a possible April release window.
Earlier this year, Mp1st reported leaked details about the Oblivion remake from a former Virtuos employee. When contacted by IGN, Microsoft chose not to comment on these claims.
Mp1st's report suggests Virtuos has completely rebuilt Bethesda's beloved RPG using Unreal Engine 5, indicating a comprehensive remake rather than a simple graphical upgrade. The report also outlined several gameplay improvements, including revamped systems for Stamina, Sneak mechanics, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reactions, and HUD design.
According to their sources, the blocking system was redesigned with modern action games in mind, addressing complaints about the original implementation being tedious. Sneak mechanics now feature clearer visual indicators with updated damage calculations, while stamina depletion occurs less frequently. The HUD received a complete overhaul for better readability, with improved hit feedback and modernized archery controls for both first and third-person gameplay.
IGN's Elder Scrolls Reviews Through the Years

Rumors about an Oblivion remaster first surfaced in 2023 during the FTC vs. Microsoft trial. Documents from July 2020, prior to Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media, listed several unannounced Bethesda projects including:
Financial year 2022: - Oblivion Remaster - Indiana Jones project
Financial year 2023 - Doom Year Zero and expansions - Project Kestrel - Project Platinum
Financial year 2024 - The Elder Scrolls 6 - Project Kestrel expansion - Licensed IP game - Fallout 3 Remaster - Ghostwire: Tokyo sequel - Dishonored 3 - DOOM Year Zero DLC
Many of these projects faced delays or cancellations. Doom Year Zero evolved into Doom: The Dark Ages (May 2025 release), Indiana Jones launched in late 2024, and Elder Scrolls 6 remains in development.
While the original Microsoft documents referenced a remaster, current reports suggest the project has evolved into a full-scale remake. The gaming community eagerly awaits Bethesda's official announcement regarding what has become gaming's worst-kept secret.
Platform availability remains another question. With Microsoft embracing multiplatform releases and the impending Nintendo Switch 2 launch, the Oblivion remake might extend beyond PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. If Nintendo's new console releases around June, we could see Oblivion featured as a launch title.
