Nintendo Switch Online App Update Unveils New Features
With just days remaining until the Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5, Nintendo has completely revamped its Nintendo Switch Online app, starting with a major name change to simply Nintendo Switch App.
This represents a significant rebranding move, especially since "Nintendo Switch Online" has been synonymous with Nintendo's subscription service for years. The service currently offers online multiplayer access, classic game libraries spanning NES, SNES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64 systems, and (with the Switch 2 launch) will soon include new GameCube titles.
The version 3.0.1 update brings more than just a name change - it introduces a sleeker interface design and improved functionality. The app now fully supports Nintendo Switch 2 systems and adds GameChat invitation capabilities. Users can manage their friends list directly in the app and opt to receive notifications when friends come online.
A particularly welcome improvement is the enhanced media management system, allowing direct uploads of screenshots and videos from your console to the app.
