Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Mouse Theory Is Looking Pretty Good Right About Now
The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal this morning lends significant credence to earlier rumors about Joy-Con mouse functionality.
The reveal trailer showcased detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface, connecting to flat-bottomed connectors. These then move across the surface like a mouse on a mousepad. A possible slider pad is even visible on one connector, bolstering the theory.
Pre-reveal speculation centered on an internal Joy-Con sensor, similar to those in computer mice. However, Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed this feature or its implications. Fans envision uses ranging from enhanced PC-style gaming (like Civilization) to innovative applications within first-party Nintendo titles. The possibilities remain open.
While details on mouse support (and the function of a new Joy-Con button) remain scarce, we do have confirmed information: the system's name (Nintendo Switch 2), its 2025 release, and an upcoming Mario Kart title. Backward compatibility with the original Switch is also assured, with further software announcements planned for an April Direct. Stay tuned for more Nintendo Switch 2 updates.
