The much-anticipated Heart of Democracy major update for *Helldivers 2* has finally arrived, bringing the intense action to the Super Earth maps. As previously leaked, this update, now available on both PC and PlayStation 5, marks the invasion of the Illuminate on our home planet. Players can now engage in missions within the Mega Cities of Super Earth, teaming up with SEAF soldiers to push back the alien threat.

The new city biomes introduce operations crucial to the liberation of these urban areas, significantly impacting the ongoing Galactic War. Arrowhead, the game's developer, emphasizes the importance of these missions, which are part of the community-driven meta-narrative that shapes the game's overarching story.

According to the PlayStation Blog, the Helldivers face a new challenge: repelling the Illuminate invasion by reclaiming territory from the squids. This task is likened to an intergalactic tug-of-war, with players constantly battling to gain and maintain control over key areas. Players can now activate Planetary Defense Cannons to take down the Illuminate fleet, as demonstrated in the trailer. Additionally, SEAF troops will assist in defending the cities, capable of fighting independently or following Helldivers to provide support. It's crucial, however, to remain vigilant of civilians still present in the streets, as managing friendly fire is a key aspect of *Helldivers 2*.

The Heart of Democracy update underscores Arrowhead's dedication to maintaining *Helldivers 2* as a long-term project following its successful launch last year. In response to player concerns about the studio shifting focus to a new project, "Game 6," Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani reassured fans, stating, "Nah. It's ALL Helldivers 2 for now. A very, very small team will spin up something later this year and go at it slowly. Helldivers is our main focus and will be for a loooong time."

Jorjani also addressed the longevity of content updates for *Helldivers 2*, saying, "As long as you folks keep playing and buying Super Credits we can keep it going." He credited the community's support for turning the game's fortunes around after a challenging period last summer, expressing optimism about the game's future.
