Elden Ring Mod Introduces Nightreign Duos

One should never underestimate the dedication of modders. Elden Ring Nightreign is now live, and within just 24 hours of its launch, a prominent FromSoftware modder has already created a Duos mode mod.

Luke Yui, the creator behind popular co-op mods for games like Elden Ring and Armored Core VI, shared a brief video on their YouTube channel yesterday. The footage showcases a two-player mod for Elden Ring Nightreign, allowing a pair of Nightfarers to join forces instead of restricting them to solo or three-player setups.

It’s worth noting that this mod is not currently available to the public or in a playable state; it's merely a demonstration by Yui. They mentioned that the mod operates without connecting to the official matchmaking servers, so while additional modifications can be used during gameplay, this also means bypassing the standard systems. Whether this becomes a practical solution or remains a technical curiosity remains to be seen.

Although Elden Ring Nightreign supports solo play and three-player co-op, there is no official option for two-player teams. Players must either go solo or find a third through matchmaking. While this might seem like a minor inconvenience, it can be frustrating for those who prefer to play exclusively with one friend.

This issue has also been a common point of criticism in the early reception of Nightreign. The absence of a duos mode has been mentioned in several negative reviews, and players are clearly struggling with the limitation. As one user on the Elden Ring subreddit observed, the Nightreign-specific subreddit resembles "a threesome sub" due to the volume of players seeking one more teammate.

In an interview with IGN, Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki acknowledged that the team "overlooked and neglected the duos aspect," but confirmed it is being evaluated for potential post-launch support. Given the strong demand for a dedicated duos mode, it’s difficult to imagine the developers ignoring the feedback.
