Android Early Access: Drive Cars with Eye Tracking

Open Drive is an innovative mobile racing game that transcends traditional gameplay. Developed through a collaboration between SpecialEffect (a charity dedicated to making gaming accessible for players with physical disabilities) and Sun & Moon Studios, the game is now available in early access for Android.

What’s the Game About?

Open Drive is designed for complete customization, allowing players to choose their preferred control method—whether touch, keyboard & mouse, switch access, or controllers. Built with inclusivity at its core, the game also supports eye-gaze control for mobile players. Using a compatible eye-tracking camera, players can steer simply by looking left or right.

This breakthrough in accessibility is especially meaningful for players who face mobility challenges, as many games only support traditional touch or gamepad inputs. The eye-gaze feature works across all four open-world environments: Stunt, Speed, Snow, and Meadow.

Gameplay adapts to your playstyle—whether you prefer relaxed exploration while collecting orbs or high-octane challenges with flips and jumps using the Roadster, Trickster, or Speedster cars. You can even adjust vehicle speed to suit your comfort level. Check out Open Drive’s announcement trailers below for a closer look:

Open Drive Is Now Out in Early Access

The game automatically detects and adapts to your chosen control method, with full support for Android’s Switch Access functionality. Depending on your input preference, Open Drive offers multiple configurations:

  • Touch Controls: Choose between ‘Precise’ (tap steering) and ‘Classic’ (directional swipes)
  • Switch Access: Optimized for specialized adaptive hardware
  • Keyboard/Mouse & Controllers: Seamlessly works with Android-compatible devices

Currently in early access, Open Drive on Android still lacks full eye-tracking implementation. However, the feature is expected to launch with the full release later this summer—best of all, the game will be free to play at launch. If you're curious, you can download the early access version now via the Google Play Store.
