In a surprise twist, Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford revealed in a now-deleted video post on April 29 that Borderlands 4 will launch earlier than expected—on September 12, 2025. Originally slated for release on September 23, the game has been moved forward by nearly two weeks thanks to strong development progress.

Pitchford shared that the team has been exceeding expectations, stating that “everything’s going kinda the best scenario,” which paved the way for the earlier release. Shortly after the initial leak, he deleted the post and clarified it was shared prematurely, with an official confirmation following shortly after.

The official Borderlands 4 X account confirmed the change, tweeting: "After careful consideration–along with A LOT of meetings, playtestings, and incredible development work–we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCH DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to SEPTEMBER 12."
