Avowed: Unveil the Fate of Ygwulf

In Avowed's opening moments, the Envoy is tragically assassinated. Solving this murder mystery reveals Ygwulf, the killer. The choice: mercy or vengeance. This guide explores whether you should kill Ygwulf.

Ygwulf's Plea for Clemency

After investigating with Kai and Marius in Paradis, you'll uncover Ygwulf's identity. A Paradisan Rebel, he targeted the Envoy, a high-value imperial target. You'll find his underground hideout after navigating a challenging dungeon filled with enemies and obstacles. Remember to stock up on health potions and equip your best gear.

Within the dungeon, documents reveal Ygwulf's remorse. Initially believing the Gods commanded his actions, he now regrets his deed. Even without finding these documents, he expresses remorse during your confrontation. He's apologetic but prepared to face justice.

The Consequences of Mercy or Surrender

Surrendering Ygwulf to Inquisitor Lödwyn of the Steel Garrote is the least favorable option, resulting in a brutal, implied death. This yields fewer rewards than sparing him or killing him.

Sparing Ygwulf grants 625 Copper Skeyt and some Adra. While not substantial, it's helpful. However, his death is predetermined, regardless of your choice.

Why Killing Ygwulf is the Best Option

Given his inevitable demise, choosing to attack Ygwulf offers several advantages. The ensuing boss fight provides valuable combat practice. More importantly, killing him provides the best loot: currency, Adra, and the unique Blackwing armor. This armor significantly boosts stealth damage (+30%) and movement speed while crouching (+25%).

Ygwulf's Impact on the Story (Spoiler Warning)

Despite being an early-game encounter, Ygwulf's fate subtly affects Avowed's ending. Post-game narration and art showcase the consequences of your choices in the Living Lands. Regardless of your efforts to bring peace, Ygwulf's death radicalizes the Paradisan Rebellion, ensuring their continued violent resistance even after the credits roll.
