Nintendo hat erneut seine Hardware-Verkaufsprognosen gesenkt, da sowohl die Umsätze mit der Switch-Konsole als auch mit Spielen hinter den Erwartungen zurückblieben.

In den ersten neun Monaten des laufenden Geschäftsjahres sank der Umsatz von Nintendos Geschäft mit dedizierten Videospielkonsolen im Vergleich zum Vorjahr um 31,7 % auf 895,5 Milliarden Yen (etwa 5,7 Milliarden US-Dollar). Dieser Rückgang wurde durch einen signifikanten Einbruch beim Verkauf von Nintendo Switch-Hardware und -Software verursacht.

Auch die Einnahmen aus dem Mobil- und Lizenzgeschäft gingen im Vergleich zum Vorjahr um 33,9 % auf 49,7 Milliarden Yen (rund 320 Millionen US-Dollar) zurück, was größtenteils auf den schwierigen Vergleich mit dem Blockbuster "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" aus dem Jahr 2023 zurückzuführen ist.

Folglich sank der Bruttogewinn im Jahresvergleich um 27,3 % auf 565,5 Milliarden Yen (etwa 3,6 Milliarden US-Dollar).

Zum zweiten Mal in Folge hat Nintendo seine Finanzprognose für das am März 2025 endende Geschäftsjahr nach unten korrigiert. Das Unternehmen rechnet nun damit, noch weniger Nintendo Switch-Konsolen zu verkaufen als bisher angenommen, und senkte seine Hardware-Verkaufsprognose um 1,5 Millionen Einheiten auf 11 Millionen. Die Software-Verkaufsprognose wurde um 10 Millionen Einheiten auf 150 Millionen gekürzt.

Obwohl eine Verlangsamung der Verkäufe bei der acht Jahre alten Nintendo Switch erwartet wurde, fielen die Rückgänge stärker aus als von Nintendo erwartet. Dennoch hat die Switch die Marke von 150 Millionen verkauften Einheiten überschritten, was einen phänomenalen Erfolg für das Unternehmen darstellt. Es mag nun außer Reichweite sein, Sonys PlayStation 2 – mit 160 Millionen verkauften Einheiten – als meistverkaufte Videospielkonsole aller Zeiten zu überholen, aber der Rekord des Nintendo DS mit 154 Millionen Einheiten ist in Sichtweite.

Nintendo beschrieb die Verkäufe von Switch und Software in seinem dritten Quartal, das am 31. Dezember 2024 endete, als "stabil für eine Plattform in ihrem achten Jahr".

Die Gesamtverkäufe der gesamten Nintendo Switch-Familie fielen im Jahresvergleich um 30,6 % auf 9,54 Millionen Einheiten. Die Softwareverkäufe gingen um 24,4 % auf 123,98 Millionen Einheiten zurück. Nintendo hob jedoch die starken Leistungen von Neuveröffentlichungen wie The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (3,91 Millionen verkaufte Einheiten), Super Mario Party Jamboree (6,17 Millionen), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (5,38 Millionen) und Nintendo Switch Sports (2,63 Millionen) im Dreimonatszeitraum hervor. Mario & Luigi: Brothership erreichte 1,4 Millionen verkaufte Einheiten.

Super Mario Party Jamboree scheint ein großer Hit zu sein. Nintendo berichtete, dass das Spiel in den ersten 11 Wochen nach seinem Start am 17. Oktober 2024 die Verkaufszahlen vorheriger Mario Party-Serientitel für die Nintendo Switch, einschließlich Super Mario Party und Mario Party Superstars, übertroffen habe.

Noch wichtiger für Nintendo, das später in diesem Jahr die Switch 2 auf den Markt bringen will, ist die nach wie vor hohe Zahl aktiver Spieler. Nintendo hob jedoch mehrere kommende originale Switch-Titel hervor, die sich noch in der Entwicklung befinden: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition erscheint am 20. März, während Pokémon Legends: Z-A und Metroid Prime 4: Beyond für 2025 geplant sind.

Nintendo erwähnte die Switch 2 ebenfalls kurz, gab jedoch keine neuen Details preis. "Am 16.
